I believe in small business! I believe in entrepreneurs!
I believe that anyone can create and operate their own successful small business if they will choose a viable niche and apply sound business strategies and principles (which you can learn here).
My favorite solo Internet business strategy suggests you create an information-based business around your education, training, interests, knowledge, experience and passion.
So what is this “passion” I’m talking about? Does it mean you have to love the subject of your business?
Well, not exactly. You see, passion is much more comprehensive and deep than simply “loving” what you do.
Here is what it means to have passion for your niche.
You must be inspired enough to dig deeply down into the subject. Much of the content and information you see online today is simply worn out and re-hashed copying from one source to another. Why? Because it’s easy to copy something from one source and paste it into another source.
Isn’t that infringing upon someone’s copyright? Yes, it usually is (unless specific permission is given from the original author). But it’s done all the time online because it’s easy and quick to do.
I’ve met very few people that aren’t inspired in their lives by something.
Rarely is that inspiration a subject (as in a niche). Subjects are too broad, too general and, if lacking in refinement, too shallow.
Usually inspiration comes from a person, a place, an ideal, a goal, a cause, a hobby, an activity, a feeling or a mental state.
The sources of inspiration don’t have to be grand or immense. Individually, each one might even be very tiny.
You may have several passions in your life, coming at the same time or one after another.
Some passions may be held for life, while others come, are consumed or played out, and then left for others to pick up.
This passion has such a grasp on you that you want to jump into it with both feet and become engulfed by its allure for you.
You want to study it, participate in it, tell others about it, become an expert in it because that is the only way to fully realize all the enjoyment it holds for you.
You would most likely participate in this passion regularly even if you weren’t going to make a business out of it.
Passion is uncommon interest. You have the desire to know much more about this passion of yours than the average person ever would. It doesn’t really do anything for him – but it’s the love of your life.
Your passion is often contagious. Find a few other people that mildly like the same things you do, and your enthusiasm for the niche will often rub off on them. They want to share in your fun and excitement.
Many people lead very dull, uninspired lives. They are stuck in routines and, for whatever reason, can’t break free to find some excitement and enjoyment even in simple pleasures.
Passion leads to persistence and long-suffering. Those are two traits that serve the online entrepreneur very well.
When others have had enough, you still are driven to uncommon performance because you just can’t get enough of the subject.
Persistence in a niche is quite often the only thing that separates a few of the successes (profitable businesses) from all the failures.
For your solo business to be a success, you’ll best be served if you have passion for the subject of your specific niche.
To your online business success!
